Dining in Paris: Cafe Louis Philippe

Cafe Louis Philippe in Paris

Situated alongside the Seine in a busy but quaint southern corner of the Marais, just at the end of Pont Louis Philippe, is what is possibly the most adorable cafe in all of Paris.  Cafe Louis Philippe is precisely what you imagine when you envision a Parisian bistro.  It has cute striped awnings topped with flower-laden window boxes, wrought iron lanterns casting a dull glow onto the bustling terrace, wire barrels with hand-scrawled chalkboards in gilded frames propped against them, and a forest of greenery offering a rare bit of privacy and seclusion.  It is such a Paris icon that it was even featured on a Paris episode of Gossip Girl as the favorite afternoon aperitif spot for Blair and Serena.

I must confess that I’ve never had the pleasure of dining at Louis Philippe, but judging by the TripAdvisor ratings, it appears to be moderately priced, delicious, and authentically French.  The boeuf bourguignon, frog legs, and duck in cherry sauce all get high marks by reviewers.  If you’re looking for romantic French atmosphere, it’s certainly hard to beat a table on the terrace – and afterwards you can take a stroll along the Seine or watch the sun set over nearby Notre Dame.  They also have an event space, making it a lovely potential option for small weddings, rehearsal dinners, and other groups.
